ABOUT ON YOUR TOES
On Your Toes is a young and growing business that was
established in the summer of 1998. We are a family oriented dance studio
offering private lessons and classes to students of all ages in the areas of
ballet, tap, jazz, lyrical, modern, hip-hop, musical theater and pom-pons. Our
philosophy is that dancers receive quality dance instruction while having fun.
We are dedicated to educating not only dancers, but parents as well, about the
world of dance. We offer a positive learning environment by giving
encouragement along with constructive criticism.
OUR BELIEFS
On Your Toes Dance Studio feels the greatest dancers come from a good
support system. That system starts with the parents and includes teachers and
other community professionals. Because dance is a commitment and a continuous
process, we encourage as many people in your family's support system to be a
part of your child's dance education. It is important for dancers to receive
support from everyone in their lives and be positive about their abilities and
accomplishments.
Our goal as a studio is to provide a positive atmosphere for your family.
Having a happy "studio family" is important and harmony between parents is key.
Showing respect for other parents, as well as other dancers and faculty, makes
a big impression on all dancers. As guardians and faculty we strive to be
positive influences and role models for your children.
We stress encouraging your dancer to be the best they can be on their own
level. Comparing your dancer to others only causes animosity and jealousy.
Dance is an individual art form and dancers need to gain strength and skills at
their own pace. No two students progress the same way.
Seeing your dancer's progress is important to families, as well as the faculty.
We work to provide the best possible teaching and training for both mind and
body. The staff at On Your Toes wants dancers to learn proper
technique, but also to love and respect the beautiful art form of dance.
Understanding Dance Education: As a guardian we feel it is important for you to
understand the world of dance. Dance is far more than physical training. On
Your Toes believes dancers also learn:
-
Positive Spirit and Character
-
Importance of Teamwork
-
Self-Discipline and Self-Esteem
-
Responsibility and Time Management
-
Coordination, Mobility and Flexibility
-
Sense of Rhythm
-
Consistency, Integrity and Passion
Our goal is to not only build beautiful, skilled dancers, but individuals with
a strong mind and sense of success in every aspect of life.
OUR FACILITY
On Your Toes has a professionally sprung, Marley Dance
floor. The floor consists of a wood scissor lock system that sits below a layer
of Marley surface. This floor is best for absorbing shock and will minimize
injuries due to repeated impact.
We currently have three large studio rooms, each with bathroom facilities and a
viewing window. The rooms have wall and portable bars to accommodate several
dancers during ballet. Each room is equipped with a full wall of large mirrors
and a top-notch sound system.
Our facility has 3 large foyer areas and plenty of space to wait while your
dancer is in class. Our hallways are equipped with benches and chairs for
families and a restroom for public use while classes are in session.
The reception station has a convenient drop slot for parents to drop off
tuition and other important papers.
On Your Toes is equipped with a vending machine containing a variety
of snacks, a soda machine, and a drink cooler filled with bottled water,
Gatorade, various juices, and several other types of beverages.
WHAT WE OFFER
Ages 2 ½ to 7
Our weekly dance classes focus on ballet and tap, but a gradual introduction to
jazz is made as the dancers get older and progress. The younger students get
introduced to a social environment and get the opportunity to learn not only
dance and all that goes along with it (motor skills, coordination, rhythm), but
also learn valuable social skills needed for later life, such as respect,
discipline and appropriate manners for the classroom. These age groups perform
a tap and ballet dance in the annual recital.
Ages 8 & Up
We have weekly combination classes that work in the disciplines of jazz, tap
and ballet for all ages and levels. We also have separate technique classes in
jazz, tap and ballet for those students wishing to dance more than once a week.
Our students get a complete dance education through the teaching of steps and
focusing on proper terminology. The dancers also learn about themselves and
their bodies through the discussion of muscle groups, the skeletal system, body
posture and nutrition. These dancers perform three or more numbers, depending
on number of classes taken, in the annual recital.
Adults
On Your Toes have classes for both experienced and beginning dancers.
The "Ladies" class (open to guys also!) focuses on jazz and tap and on having
fun while exercising. It is great for adults looking for a class to meet
people, learn a little about dance and get a good workout. The "Alumni" class
is more for the experienced dancer. It is still mainly about having fun, but it
moves much more quickly than the "Ladies" class and some prior dance knowledge
is helpful. Both classes will decide whether or not to participate in the
recital. On Your Toes also offers a recreational aerobics class for
those who want to stay in shape!
Competition Groups
On Your Toes also participates in three local competitions per year. In
order to be a competition dancer, all dancers must go through the audition
process. There are combinations taught in jazz, tap, lyrical and hip-hop.
All competition dancers are required to purchase all necessary
costumes and accessories for each routine. Dancers are required to buy
rhinestone earrings and a piece of On Your Toes clothing to wear at all
competitions
Dancewear
On Your Toes allows parents to do one-stop shopping.
We have a large selection of dancewear and carry the necessary shoes that each
dancer will need for each of their classes. We carry pink ballet shoes and
black shoes for tap and jazz. We have extremely reasonable prices and are less
expensive than most dance supply stores.
